On August 11, 2021, the leading distributor of semiconductor components dedicated to the Asia-Pacific region-Grand United Holdings announced that its subsidiary Youshang has launched an ultra-small PD fast charge based on ON Semiconductor’s NCP1342 controller IC Source scheme.

In this era of information technology, smart technology products are closely related to people’s lives, especially the emergence of smart mobile Electronic devices such as mobile phones and tablets, which greatly facilitate people’s lives. However, despite the rapid development of electronic equipment, its battery life has always been an urgent problem in the industry. Therefore, many manufacturers have chosen to use PD fast charging to increase the charging speed when they cannot solve the problem by increasing the battery capacity.
The PD fast charging source solution based on ON Semiconductor’s NCP1342 controller IC launched by the Universiade University uses a new type of GaN material with a maximum output power of 65W. In terms of design, this solution adopts the dual-panel and the most simplified design concept. The overall size is only 51.5mmX51.5mmX31mm, and the upper and lower two pieces of copper are designed with a thickness of about 1.0mm, which not only meets EMI but also has good thermal conductivity.

The core device of this solution is ON Semiconductor’s NCP1342 controller IC, which has a proprietary valley lock circuit to ensure stable valley switching. In design, NCP1342 uses minimum peak current modulation (MPCM) to quickly reduce the switching frequency to ensure light-load performance for high-frequency designs. Not only that, NCP1342 also has several key protection circuits built-in to ensure robust converter performance.
