Microchip launches new devices and expands design ecosystem to enhance motor control support

With the increasing popularity of motors in more and more system applications, developers need products and tools that can ensure that the system runs as efficiently as possible, while reducing board size, component count, and energy consumption. Microchip Technology Inc. today announced the expansion of its motor control product lineup, launching new digital signal controller (DSC) and microcontroller (MCU) products, providing design tools, development hardware, torque maximization algorithms, and refrigerator compression Machine reference design.

Microchip’s new series of motor control products include:

· DsPIC® DSC: dsPIC33CK64MC10x DSC is used for field-oriented control (FOC), cost optimization, functional safety, motor control plug-in module (PIM) that supports existing motor control development boards, and a new low-cost low-voltage motor control development board. MPLAB® X integrated development environment (IDE) and MPLAB code configurator (MCC) support rapid code development, and the motorBench® development kit provides FOC motor control optimized code generation.

· PIC32MK MCJ and MCM microcontrollers for FOC: The second-generation 32-bit microcontrollers provide 32-bit floating-point arithmetic and DSP performance, as well as flexible communication options. By sharing analog functions with dsPIC33CK, it supports seamless migration across device categories. They also have multiple CAN-FD and USB ports. MPLAB® X integrated development environment (IDE) supports these microcontrollers and provides three development hardware options. The software support of PIC32MK includes a set of motor control software, which provides support for sensored and sensorless applications through the MPLAB® Harmony v3 software framework.

MotorBench Development Kit: Microchip’s graphical user interface (GUI)-based software development tool version 2.35 shortens the time required to use FOC rotating motors and generates optimized source code for specific motor customization. This product extends the support for the dsPIC33CK series, adding a new angle tracking phase-locked loop (AT-PLL) estimator, field weakening (FW), maximum torque per ampere (MTPA), dead zone compensation (DTC) and many more Other new features.

· Zero speed/maximum torque (ZS/MT) algorithm: For applications that require high torque when the low inductance motor is stationary or at low speed, there is no need to use a Hall sensor. Supports dsPIC33 DSC, SAM and PIC32MK motor control microcontrollers.

· DsPIC33CK Low Voltage Motor Control Development Board: Provide application development platform and customer circuit board reference design for dsPIC33CK series.

· Low-cost, high-efficiency refrigerator compressor reference design: This reference design further expands the increasingly abundant turnkey design series, demonstrates the best practices of motor control design for specific applications, and shortens the time to market.
