Diodes Incorporated launched a synchronous step-down converter for automobiles with innovative noise reduction function and power supply stability indicator

[Plano, Texas, USA, December 15, 2020]Diodes Corporation (Nasdaq: DIOD) announced the launch of two highly integrated synchronous step-down converters with stable power supply (Power Good) output and applications for noise-sensitive products The innovative EMI noise mitigation technology developed to simplify the circuit design of the automotive power system.

AP63356Q and AP63357Q are both 3.5A step-down converters with an input voltage range of 3.8V to 32V. Using peak current control mode and on-chip metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) for high-end and low-end power supplies, the buck converter minimizes the external parts required to reduce bill of materials (BOM) costs and circuit boards volume.

The above two products are equipped with power supply stability indicators, including 5MΩ pull-up resistors to help power supply sequencing. To help power sequencing more effectively, the enable pin of the buck converter has a precise threshold voltage, which can adjust the input voltage device and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). The enable pin can withstand high voltage, so it can be directly connected to VIN to simplify the device’s automatic startup procedure. When turned off, the turn-off current of the buck converter is only 0.6µA.

The product’s proprietary gate driver can ensure smooth switching, while avoiding ringing during node switching and minimizing high-frequency radiation noise. Spread spectrum (FSS) can disperse the noise generated during switching, allowing the product to operate quietly.

AP63356Q operates continuously in PWM mode when the switching frequency of all loads is 450kHz. At light load, AP63357Q will switch to PFM mode. When the load is 5mA, it will operate at an efficiency of up to 86%, and the no-load quiescent current is only 22µA.

Both have low-loss linear regulators, which means that when the input voltage drops to close to the output voltage, the output voltage regulation rate can be maintained. Built-in protection functions include under-voltage protection (UVP), cycle-by-cycle peak current limit, and thermal shutdown. These two products can provide powerful automotive POL solutions due to the above-mentioned protection functions and 40V (400ms) input voltage surge withstand capability.

AP63356Q and AP63357Q comply with AEC-Q100 Grade1 specifications, support PPAP documents, and are manufactured by IATF 16949 certified facilities. Both devices are packaged in 3mm × 2mm V-DFN3020-13 (SWP) with wettable flanks for automatic optical inspection.
